Activity Overview

An advanced abseil in the Blue Mountains. Particpants will meet at Normanhurst Scout Hall and carpool to Katoomba. Abseil down Malaita Point. Return to Normanhurst Scout hall

Malaita Point is in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. Scenic World and the Three
Sisters are nearby. The Abseil is made up of a number of Abseils, the longest being 45m.

There will be experienced guides on this trip but this is not an abseil for beginners and it
is expected that you have at SafeParticpant or OAS 4 Abseil qualifications. l If you are not
sure if you are ready for this abseil talk to us.

Clothing & Equipment

• BYO Abesil Gear/Harness if you have them (Must be in good condition and within Expiry
  Date).
• Normanhurst has Helmets, Harnesses, Carabiners, Gloves and Descenders if you
  need to borrow them. Will sort out on the day.

Packing List (None of these things are Optional):
Day Pack (Must have room to carry a rope in addition to your gear)
Gloves (Gardening or Work Gloves)
Sturdy Walking Shoes
Warm Clothes including thermals (It will be cold and windy)
Rain/Spay Jacket (This isn't to keep you dry, its to keep you warm !)
Beanie
Lunch and Snacks (We won't be stopping to buy anything in Katoomba or on the
way)
First Aid kit that includes Space Blanket
Water Bottle
Head Torch
If you have long hair you will need to bring some Hair Ties to tie it back
Prussik Loops if you have them
Optionally you can bring a Phone or Camera, but it is your responsibility to keep it safe

Travel Arrangements

We will be meeting at Normanhurst Scout hall at 06:00am. We will sort out any Abseil gear
and Ropes required and arrange Car Pools. Leaders will be transporting Venturers in their
cars. Once organised we will head of to Katoomba and regroup somewhere with Public
Toilets before heading to Malaita Point. We expect to finish sometime around 14:00 at which
point we will head back to Normanhurst Scout hall around 16:00 (Depending on Traffic).

• This activity will be conducted under direct or indirect adult supervision. Both male and female leaders will be present.
